Patricia aka Pattye (that's me!) lives a life driven by creativity, encouraged early on by my Mother, an accomplished weaver, fiber artist and colorist.
A fascination with exotic gems of the sea began with my grandfather's gifts to me as a toddler, coral-pink conch and iridescent abalone shells which sometimes appear as props in listing photos.
Finding shiny agates in the dry creek on my family farm piqued my interest in gemstones, which I pursued as a hobby. My interest in jewelry was for many years secondary to the decades of practical experience and formal training (teacher) analyzing fabric, fibers and threads through University and beyond, studying design, clothing construction, tailoring and sewing professionally.
In the '90s I worked as a Fine Jewelry Specialist for Nordstrom, selling diamonds, gems and Mikimoto Pearls. Intriguing as the first Chinese freshwater strands were, of course, I had no idea where it would all lead.
My passion for pearls included studies with GIA (Gemological Institute of America) resulting in a Graduate Pearls Degree, all the better to bring you exceptional, beautiful, affordable pearls.
Please join me on Pearl-Guide.com forum where I've been a contributing member since 2005. We discuss all things pearl, including tips and techniques for stringing pearls and gemstones! It delights me each time someone posts a photo of their first successful knotted project!
In 2012, after much research and testing, I introduced a premier brand of beading thread on Etsy. With over 65 colors in 4 weights specifically chosen to compliment pearls, gemstones and beads, almost every stringing need can be met. This thread offers strength, silkiness, drape and ease of use right from the card or spool, making it a favorite of professional jewelers and knotters worldwide!
I love the antiqued dark patina on sterling silver chain and findings, which I hand apply and polish. To me, the contrast with pearls and gemstones looks informal, chic and a bit edgy.
Custom knotting, restringing and restyling are available by request. Questions are always welcome.
